Volunteer – Alaska

When disasters strike, we want to be able to respond immediately with practical help and the hope of Jesus Christ. By working with volunteers, Samaritan's Purse can bring relief quickly to those who are suffering--wherever they may be. Volunteers should be committed Christians who want to provide compassionate, competent service in the Name of Christ.

Volunteer - Kokrine Hills Bible Camp, Alaska

Samaritan's Purse is in need of skilled construction volunteers for another project in Alaska. We will be working at the Kokrine Hills Bible Camp, located about 350 miles north of Anchorage and 225 miles west of Fairbanks on the Yukon River. For more information on the camp and its ministry to youth in Alaska’s rural villages, visit their Web site.

We will be building a 28' x 60' addition to the kitchen/dining hall, and need volunteers with strong construction skills. Volunteers will start arriving on July 12, and our goal is to finish by September 1.

The camp is very rustic. Cell phone service is unavailable, and there are no TVs or stores. Mattresses will be provided, but volunteers will need to provide their own sleeping bag and pillow. Showers will be available, but there are no flushing toilets.

Each volunteer is responsible for getting to Kenai on Friday. Samaritan's Purse will provide housing on Friday night, and transportation to the camp the following day.

Due to the logistics involved and our narrow window of opportunity, we are asking volunteers to stay for a minimum of two weeks. Samaritan's Purse will provide transportation back to Kenai, and teams will then be responsible for getting flights home.

If you or your church are interested in this exciting opportunity, please have each team member complete and submit the skills worksheet available as a download below. Not all of the skills listed on the form pertain to the Kokrine Hills project, but we do need this information for our database.

Once your skills have been reviewed and approved, you will be asked to complete the Volunteer Questionnaire located in the Volunteer Opportunities section. We then will contact you to discuss possibilities.

How to Sign Up:

1. Download the skills worksheet form and save it to your computer. This form is a fillable MS Word document.
2. Carefully fill out each section of the form. Incomplete forms cannot be processed.
3. Send the completed form as an e-mail attachment to Samaritan's Purse Disaster Response. When you click on this link, a blank e-mail will be opened. Attach your completed form to your return message.

You will be contacted in the next few weeks as we assess needs and coordinate scheduling based on volunteer availability.
